GN Systems

The mobile suits of the brilliant show Gundam 00 have what are called GN drives. These are also referred to as solar furnaces. These GN systems are a type of generator that is able to be installed directly on a Gundam.

GN systems generate energy for the Gundams. This is a futuristic way to generate energy that is not possible to exhaust, or run out of. In fact, there is no heat derived from this system.

The GN drives also emit GN particles. These particles do not add to the energy power, but are nevertheless helpful byproducts.

This system is so powerful that Celestial Being does not want its technology to be discovered by anyone else. They guard the secret to prevent world powers and terrorists from building their own mobile suits that are this powerful.

The GN particles are almost as fascinating as the GN drive itself. These particles have many different uses. It is interesting that all Gundams use this system and that some of the particles that are emitted are a blue green color.

There is also a Trans-AM mode for the GN drives. This can deactivate the limiters that are set on GN drives. During normal operation, the GN drives must store the GN particles. These collect over time, but when the Trans-AM is turned on it becomes possible to release these particles. At the same time, the Gundams armor becomes very red in color.

This gives the Gundams a huge advantage over enemies because their speed, ability to move around, and strength of power becomes three times as strong. Of course, once the stored up GN particles are gone these increased powers go away. The Gundams must then recharge and are actually not up to the standard power in this recharge phase. It is for that reason that it is a serious decision Meisters have to make when they turn the Trans-AM system on.

It should be noted that the head of Celestial Being, Aeolia Schenberg designed these Gundams so they wouldn’t always operate at their strongest capacity. The Trans-AM was rightfully installed as a backup. This is a good thing as Veda was compromised and the future of Celestial Being could be as well without the Trans-AM system in place.

The GN systems are built very smartly to give the Gundam Meisters a leg up on the competition. The GN drives use an unlimited source of energy, all the while emitting helpful GN particles. These GN particles are even stored up over time, and when they are released the Gundams are incredibly powerful.
